2 POEMS

Valerie Loveland

I AM THE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EYE

I am a light receptor                and a light source.
I am not a normal eye,            I am a better eye.

I am in the sky glowing with evidence that drags behind me like a magnificent informative tail.
I am a   found     cause                    I am an announcement
                                                                          while the bridge is collapsing,
a sticker bush with one huge thorn:          I can curl my tail
                                                                                                           into a hook.

I am always awake.    I report everything to the police.                                I report all of it   to   God.

I write on a clicky keyboard    so you know what I am saying about you.     If you listen to me
you will reform your science of ideas,            you will stay out of my sight.

I never see nothing at all.       I saw someone in love and reported them I saw a man walking
a cat on a leash and reported them I saw a dog with 3 legs and
                                                     reported them.

I reported myself for peeking while loitering before I realized
                                                                                                                 it was me.
They corrected: If it is you, it isn't a report, it is a confession.                         We all laughed.

OUR THERAPISTS ARE ARCHAEOLOGISTS

During summer I was previously accustomed to sweating                with dudes in basements without air conditioning or in my parents attic
looking for a vintage dress to wear to a party.
There were only two summers in my life when I was not
too fat to wear vintage clothes.

The problem with EMDR Therapy      is you have to be able to recall very specific memories.

A vague memory can not be refiled into a less dangerous brain file.
A cloudy trauma is just bad feelings
                                                                                                         that have always been there.
You don't know where they came from,
                                                                                                         but they are your foundation.

Bronze Age trackway is buried
by Roman roads which are buried
by medieval cart track, which is buried
by Turnpike road where stage coaches used to roll their big slow wheels, which is covered
by modern roads.
I want to say built on top of or stacked.
We act like a buried thing disappears
but if you hide the location of a road
                                                                                                                                             with another road
you can not claim it is            not a road anymore.

My coworker said that he taught his mom how to troll on the internet
but he originally learned how to troll from her
                                                                                        before the internet was invented.

I endeavor to be hilarious in a boundless way           instead of sharp razor jabs
but razor cuts aren't supposed to hurt
so I must be more dull than a razor.

My ex thought it was hilarious he could not convince me
to lie down in a chalk outline
that he drew on our floor.                                                He said A chalk outline can not kill you,
                                                                                               that's my responsibility!

The cops love him because he makes it easier to do their job.

On "I am the Neighborhood Watch Eye":
I have always been afraid of the Neighborhood Watch Eye.

On "Our Therapists are Archaeologists":
I wrote this poem after seeing a picture of a slice of the A303 road in England showing the many layers of roads built on top of each other.
