Where to begin? Predisposed hegemonic parenting patterns, including intersections of patriarchy, capitalism, and lack of bodily autonomy/dehumanization of womxn, are not linear (nor is the creative process). There is cognitive dissonance—and anger—inherent in the experience of splitting the concurrent/compartmentalized biopsychosocial selves that are needed to mother. Like writing, mothering is not rational, and neither are blankets! Blankets are synonymous with babies despite being gifted more than one could ever need (while having no maternity leave, or health insurance, and listening to pediatricians tell you they are unsafe to sleep with). Meanwhile, I am wondering where an heirloom crazy quilt that was passed down through my family is now, and about matriarchal lineage generally—what changes generationally, what remains the same, what we consider as beginning and ending, and all the lived nuances of my ancestral mothers stories that I will never know.
