During a winter of unmanageable bureaucracy, I encountered, by chance, Hegel's writings on habit. Hegel made me realize how my habits (of reading, of writing) tore holes, very small ones, in the systems over which I had no control. As a way of meditating on "habit", I collaged passages from Hegel's Philosophy of Spirit (1830) with, primarily, the technical manual Machinery's Handbook (1930).
