ON EXPERIMENTS IN OBJECT PERMANENCE:
I wrote this poem on the fortieth anniversary of the publication of Robert Hass's ["Meditation at Lagunitas"]. Let it suffice to say that my relationship to that poem has evolved over the years—years during which I've been raising two girls.
