I made most of this during a few-week span last summer when I was really busy helping run a summer writing camp. I scanned my car’s instruction manual, printed out a bunch of the pages, and would carry them around in my backpack sketching out some of these erasures when I had some downtime and at night. Once the camp was over, I just kept playing with them, doing more of them, and decided it might also be fun to paint them. So I guess the thing started as just a fun exercise, a way for me to keep in touch with poetry and language during a really busy time, and then kind of just took shape into a project of sorts.
