At the time of these erasures' creation, I was reading Zong! by M. NourbeSe Philip for a Teaching in the Community class with Ross Gay, and also heard briefly of the concept behind Solmaz Sharif’s now-published rewrite of the U.S. Department of Defense’s dictionary, Look. These two projects inspired me to find voices in the fraught silences of texts, and challenge the concept of news and reporting.
