New Michigan Press does not currently consider unsolicited manuscripts. If you have a chapbook manuscript, please feel free to query us electronically @ <nmp@thediagram.com>. Please include a list of acknowledgments, a few sample pieces, and a description of the project. We generally do not read much outside of our chapbook competition; we encourage all writers to enter the competition (we usually acquire several manuscripts from our list of finalists). Our staff reads all entries thoroughly at least two times. We carefully consider all of the manuscripts entered in our yearly chapbook competition; we encourage you to enter. The deadline is typically in the Spring. Click [here] for the contest information. Though New Michigan Press is not cut from the same cloth as DIAGRAM (NMP produces print products only, and doesn't necessarily have a bias towards more diagrammatic work—though of course there is some overlap), we do enjoy seeing work that falls in the cracks between genres, or that transcends/combines genres. We are also very open to more traditional forms. We prefer to keep an open mind when it comes to laying the ground rules for creative work. We do not have a bias towards or against more established writers; the merit of the work is our biggest concern. The best way to see what we like is to buy one or more of our chapbooks. Help support New Michigan Press and other small presses who keep the chapbook genre alive. |
