These costs have been avoided, at least under a wide variety of conditions, as in the Figure 12 structure [above] which depicts the broad span of control that developed in some medium-sized stores of Sears, Roebuck.... Consistent with Sears policy, the individual store managers were allowed to develop the intrastore organizational structure they desired.
