George Mattis, from Whitetail: Fundamentals and Fine Points for the Hunter, illustrated by William Reusswig, 1969, Popular Science/Outdoor Life Book Division, Time Mirror Magazines, Inc.

The third method of gang hunting is simply a combination of hunting abreast and driving, although no definite plans are made for an organized, tactical hunt. It is often resorted to when the men are a bit tired from a hard morning of driving, or it can be used merely as a change of pace in hunting, especially if the afternoon becomes a bit warm. No one has the zest for any elaborate hunt and most are quite willing to laze about the deer area for the balance of the day, each in his own way with no attachment to the gang.
