WHEN YOU LAND IN LONDON

you promised your together
person kisses. but there is a waiting.
you understand phones better
when you don't have a phone
when there is a waiting
when you land in London.
you wait too long
because you are only American
in your currency. you pay
to change this and pay
to make a call. your together
person finds you easy then.
but there is a waiting.
and your promises
are American and you
can't change this.
so eat. your time
is American
and you can't change
this so pizza
for breakfast. there is
a waiting. you carry
your own bags.

WHEN YOU LAND IN A SOUP

today you were in a soup
it was split pea. the soup
of the day is always
split pea here.

today you were in a suit
but more importantly
you were in a soup.
it wasn't as thick

as you like. kind of ran
through your hands,
and shined your hair
like olive oil. you like to float.

but the peas please
when you are in a soup.
you eat the peas first
and then swallow
the broth by
the gallons.

by the time anyone serves you
to anyone, you're it.
you're the main attraction.
you're in a soup
and then you're alone in a bowl.
no one will pay for that.
