ACOUSTIC-HOMING SYSTEMS PRESENT CERTAIN PROBLEMS

Sound has found some application in the form of torpedoes which seek out the sound of enemy craft. But sound seekers have certain disadvantages. Sych systems must be constructed or shielded in such a way that their own noises and those from the launching crat will not interfere with their proper operation (e.g., see the next figure). Bcause of the relatively nondirectional qualities of sound waves, this has proved to be extremely difficult to accomplish.
